Fort Worth Gas Drilling Continues Down The River Without a Plan, a Paddle or a Clue

by Steve-O

Like water seeking base level, the fight over urban gas drilling in Fort Worth always seems to come back to the Trinity River. Much like the Trinity Trees situation last year, the current debate over the Greenwood Cemetery drilling site wraps up all of the dilemmas and contradictions the public space / private property situation in one neat little package.

Group Formed to Protect Trinity Trails

by Steve-O

The Trinity Trails, one of the nicest pieces of green space in the whole city, has taken a few shots in the past year. First the Trinity Trees, then the Gas Drilling Task Force declining to recommend protected status for the trails. Local government doesn’t seem willing to protect this resource, so concerned citizens have decided to step in and form Protect the Trinity Trails in an attempt to preserve this resource. First item on the agenda — the proposed high impact well at the Greenwood Memorial Park Lease. The gas drilling permit came before council on August 5 and a continuance was granted until September 2.

by Steve-O

Jim Bradbury, the District 9 representative on the City’s Gas Drilling Task Force, is West and Clear’s guest for today’s podcast. He discusses the Task Force’s work on this issue, as well as many of other related areas, such as the Trinity Trail and public parks, eminent domain abuse and pipelines, injection wells and setback requirements. I would like to encourage concerned citizens of Fort Worth to attend the Public Hearing on Monday night at 6:30 at City Hall. I’d also like to encourage you to listen to Jim’s explanation of the issues.

Going to The Colonial?

by Pete Wann

Looking Southwest from Rogers Rd. / Trinity Trees area
View from the Trinity Trail toward Colonial Country Club near Rogers Rd./Trinity Trees area.

I’m not going to be able to go, cause I’m pretty busy next week with things like starting my new job, but I understand there’s this big deal of a golf tournament going on. Apparently the course is so difficult that even the best players on the PGA Tour avoid playing there.

Anyway, if you’re going out to the tournament, save yourself the headache and hassle of trying to find parking, and take the Trinity Trails! Colonial Country Club, together with Streams and Valleys, is working to encourage tournament attendees to lessen their impact on the environment by walking, kayaking, or riding your bike to the Tournament. For every fan that does and checks in at the Streams and Valleys tent, Colonial will donate $10 to Streams and Valleys.
