Editor’s Note:At about 5 minutes into the show, the air compressor kicks on in the bike shop. Turn your speakers down. It only lasts about 15 seconds.
This week’s guest is Don Young, the man behind the Friends of Tandy Hills and lead organizer of Prairie Fest, which will be held on Saturday, the 26th from 11AM to 7PM.
Also this week:
Don’t forget to get out and vote on Tuesday in the Democratic Primary runoff for Railroad Commissioner.
There will be a $60 buy-in charity poker tournament benefiting the Euless Trinity Trojans Football team this Friday at the Rahr & Sons Brewery. The tournament starts at 7PM. I have no info on prizes.
If you’re looking for a way to spend your morning on Saturday the 26th, you could do worse than to start at Dane Fest in Keller. (Why NOT hit two Fests in one day?) Normally we don’t plug things outside the city limits, but this is a good cause.
Special thanks to this episode’s sponsor: Rahr and Sons Brewing. They tell me that Summertime Wheat is in the works and should be out within the next two months, just in time for 100 degree weather. The Monk tells me that local beer is the best no matter the style, because it’s as fresh as it can be without drinking directly from the bottling line hoses. (He also says that the “local is better” rule only applies if your local brewery makes good beer.)

Spring may bring to mind thoughts of the opposite sex and the birds and the bees for some people, but for us Monks it means something totally different — Maibock (and other bock-style) beer!
True maibocks tend to be lighter in color than other bock beers, like dopplebocks. They’re also usually a bit more hoppy and spicy than a dopplebock. (Dopplebocks are the most likely style of bock beer that most folks have tried.)
The prototype for the dopplebock is Paulaner Salvator. Salvator was originally brewed by monks and served during lent as a replacement for food.

This week:
PeteW attended the Django Reinhardt festival at Arts Fifth Avenue Saturday night. Great time, and a really warm, enviting venue for arts events in the Fairmount/Ryan Place area.
Steve-O listened to the Fort Worth Symphony at Carnegie Hall this weekend. He thought it went off well, and so did both the Star-Telegram and the NY Times. (Quick correction: the new piece was a fresh arrangement of a 1999 composition.)
Kevin clues us in to a couple of new green developments (well, one green and one “green“) happening in Fort Worth.
“Ria!”
Flynn’s Irish Pub - A great place to stop for a cold Rahr beer. (No, neither of them is paying us to say that.)

Eerie Industries and Rahr Brewing are having a Hallowe’en costume party at the Brewery tonight, from 8 - Midnight. The $25 entry charge includes free BBQ, a Rahr Pint Glass, 2 bands, and all the scary entertainment you can handle. Oh yeah, and you also get free beer.
Shake off the cobwebs this Saturday with the Clean Air Rally that Bernie mentioned earlier. Come out and support better environmental policy in your city and this great state!
Take a break by doing whatever it is you do on Sunday mornings and afternoons, then come out to meet Bernie (and probably the rest of us) at Rahr on Sunday at 7:00PM. We hope to see you there!
