It’s not often that you have the sublime experience of both the literal and figurative meaning of a word. I’ve been enjoying both for the last 5 days, living without electricity, and unable to do anything about it.
During the storms last Thursday morning, we were spared the actual loss of power; instead, our electric meter (a classic 1948 model) was almost completely ripped off the wall by the wind. The power line stayed connected from the mast at the house to the line in the alley, so we still had power Friday morning.

This week on the show:
- Discussion of the recent events at the Lone Star Film Society, as well as our coverage of the possible effects on the Lone Star Film Festival.
- The Stock Show is going on downtown. Pete took some awesome pictures, and the Star-Telegram is providing some excellent coverage. Think of them as the play-by-play and us as the color commentary.
- Budget Travel magazine writes up the 25 things they love about Fort Worth, MSNBC picks it up, and while we like some of it, we’re all bothered by the fact that our WORLD-CLASS museums (how many times do we have to say that before people take notice?) come in at number 8.
- Steve sat down with Darren Woods, Managing Director of the Fort Worth Opera, to talk about the upcoming season and where he thinks the Opera in Fort Worth is headed. Look for his writeup on that interview later this week. Also, I commit to going to one of the shows with Steve, despite my general avoidance of all things opera.
We had a good time recording this one, we hope you enjoy it, and thanks for listening!

This week:
Don’t forget to vote on Tuesday, November 6th. We’d like you to vote for Bernie if you’re undecided.
Also, the Lone Star International Film Festival kicks off on Wednesday the 7th and runs through the 11th. We still haven’t heard from Bill Paxton yet, but I’m looking at the list now, and I think I’d MUCH more like to meet Jay Chandrasekhar, so if anyone from the LSIFF publicity machine is reading this and can hook that up, drop us a line.
The more I’m seeing about this thing, the more excited I’m getting. Check out the events page for a list (and ticketing) of all the movies, dinners, panels, etc. Also, be sure to take a look a the parties page for a list of where you might rub elbows with a celebrity around town. Of note: local group Theater Fire are playing at the closing party at The Flying Saucer on Sunday at 8:00PM. You know I’m going to be there for that!
(edit - 3:30 PM) I forgot to mention earlier that we’re all looking forward to Ricki Derek’s new club, The Scat Jazz Lounge opening. We discussed that a bit during the show, too.
