Kevin’s Photos: Eighth

by Kevin Buchanan

There aren’t an awful lot of these old inlaid street names in the city (ditto for the old blue & white tile street names on the curbs). This lovely example is at 8th & Houston downtown, next to the W. T. Waggoner Building.

This Week At Fort Worthology

by Kevin Buchanan

As some of you may know, I run West And Clear’s sister site, Fort Worthology. Fort Worthology is about urban development and urban living in Fort Worth, and promoting New Urbanism in the city. As part of a new feature here, I’m going to give you a rundown of what’s been happening on Fort Worthology since last Thursday.

  • I wrote an update on the construction of the Caceria Building, Wagner Oil’s new seven-story office/retail building downtown at 5th & Commerce.
  • Fort Worthology Contributor (and my significant other) Stephanie saw work being done on the Texas & Pacific Warehouse, as crews pumped water out of its basement.
  • My storm photos made an appearance there as well.
  • I promoted Modern ‘Til Midnight. Look for photos and a report soon!
  • A report on the progress being made on the new Southwest Bank on 7th Street.
  • I took to task those who say urban development in Fort Worth is pointless, because we’ll never be like New York, a statement which completely misses the point and fails to understand what “urban” means. I suggest that future development in Fort Worth won’t be anything like NYC - rather, more like Portland, Oregon.
  • Plans are revealed for the historic Shelton Building downtown.
  • The new Flatiron-style building at Museum Place heads skyward.
  • West and Clear Podcast - “Vote Bernie”

    by Pete Wann

    This week:

Don’t forget to vote on Tuesday, November 6th. We’d like you to vote for Bernie if you’re undecided.

Also, the Lone Star International Film Festival kicks off on Wednesday the 7th and runs through the 11th. We still haven’t heard from Bill Paxton yet, but I’m looking at the list now, and I think I’d MUCH more like to meet Jay Chandrasekhar, so if anyone from the LSIFF publicity machine is reading this and can hook that up, drop us a line.

The more I’m seeing about this thing, the more excited I’m getting. Check out the events page for a list (and ticketing) of all the movies, dinners, panels, etc. Also, be sure to take a look a the parties page for a list of where you might rub elbows with a celebrity around town. Of note: local group Theater Fire are playing at the closing party at The Flying Saucer on Sunday at 8:00PM. You know I’m going to be there for that!

(edit - 3:30 PM) I forgot to mention earlier that we’re all looking forward to Ricki Derek’s new club, The Scat Jazz Lounge opening. We discussed that a bit during the show, too.
