I mentioned in my last post that we were having lunch randomly with David Newsom, and he was gracious enough to let me annoy him for about 5 minutes and record a short interview. He lays out his picks for must see films at the festival, be sure to give it a listen!
After partying last night with Bernie, PeteG, and Bill Paxton, I was pretty wiped. We got a lot of audio, and I’m working on cleaning it up and making it somewhat sensical.
Overall my impression of my first ever international film festival is that it could be better attended. Unfortunately I feel like as hard as they tried, the LSIFF crew just wasn’t able to get the word out early enough. Bernie said that they just dropped off posters at his shop last week.
Nevertheless, turnout for a party late on a Wednesday night was pretty good, and I doubt it was just Bill Paxton’s star power that made it happen. It’s pretty clear that there are a ton of folks in this city that are really excited about this event and are going to make every event they can.
If you’re on the fence about coming, I highly suggest you come out. You don’t have to buy a pass at $295, you can buy individual tickets for about $8 a show. COME OUT AND SEE A MOVIE!
At this very moment I’m sitting across from David Newsom, who’s screening a film in the shorts section called “Mother.” He’s handing out vouchers to get people out for the daytime showings: with a voucher you get in free. SO, track down a filmmaker and get a voucher!
