I just received the following from Fort Worth South, Inc., regarding a meeting that has been announced by Chesapeake about Near Southside gas pipelines:
We just heard from Chesapeake Energy yesterday afternoon that they will hold a public meeting tonight to discuss gas pipeline proposals for the Near Southside. The proposed pipelines would connect to the existing Chesapeake drill site just north of I-30 and west of the T&P Warehouse building. This is an important meeting, as pipeline alignments could significantly affect redevelopment plans for the district, and certain alignments may require the acquisition of private property. The meeting will be held at Broadway Baptist Church, 305 W. Broadway Avenue, at 5:30 p.m. room 302.
Is another pipeline fight brewing? Go to the meeting tonight and find out.

Q Cinema is presenting film fest favorite “Pageant” as the last film in their fall series.
From the press release:
The Miss Gay America Pageant has more talent and drama than the Miss America, Miss USA and Miss Universe Pageants combined. To be crowned Miss Gay America is being honored as the most beautiful and fiercely talented female impersonator in the country.
“Pageant” follows five everyday men and their families as they strive for one extraordinary dream. And you’ll hear from the men as well as from those in their entourage: husbands, mothers, sons and little brothers.
“Pageant” runs 95 minutes, and is being screened Wednesday, October 29th at the Four Day Weekend Theater. Tickets are $10, and are available online or at the venue.

One year ago, we anxiously pressed the publish button on our first post, not knowing where this would take us, never imagining where it did, but knowing that there was a side of the Fort Worth experience we wanted to share. Since then, we’ve written countless articles, published hundreds of pictures, recorded tens of podcasts, and pissed off untold numbers of people.
All this while holding down “day jobs.”
No blog/forum/podcast/new media experiment can be successful without the help of its community, and W&C is no exception. Thanks so much to all of you for sending in tips, comments, and photos. Interactivity is what makes this place special, and we’re honored to share our experiences with you.
Thank you for telling your friends, families, and complete strangers about us. Our readership has grown exponentially since we launched, and that’s all thanks to you, our loyal fans.
We have no idea what’s in store for us over the next year, but we are all excited to be sharing it with you!

Just got this movie tip from friend of W&C Tom Huckabee –

I caught a sneak preview of a great movie last night at Four Day Weekend Theater. It’s “Night Crawlers,” a cheeky vampire comedy, straight out of Cleburne with an entirely local cast and crew.

Exceptionally well-written and acted, it pushes the envelope of genre conventions, while delivering the requisite thrills and laughs on a micro budget. Decent tech credits are underscored by some intentionally cheesy moments of excessive gore, a welcome respite from hyper-graphic mainstream horror, at least as far as this viewer was concerned. It’s a splatter pic you can take your kids or granny to! Check out the website for notices about future screenings.

Casa Mañana is presenting the percussive tour-de-force STOMP at Bass Hall for one week only — from November 11th through the 16th.
STOMP is continuously evolving, and this time around it brings the addition of two new full-scale routines, with other sections of the show updated and restructured.
Along with new content, there are also new faces in the cast, including Fort Worth native and 2005 TCU grad John Angeles. Angeles also appeared on America’s Got Talent in 2007.
STOMP is directed and created by Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas. The national touring production is presented by Casa Mañana for an exclusive limited engagement at Bass Performance Hall in Downtown Fort Worth.
For details, tickets, and showtimes, check out Casa Mañana’s website, or visit STOMP Online.
Pete’s Note: I saw STOMP in 1999 while I lived in San Diego. I’ve been to a lot of concerts and shows since then, and STOMP is still my absolute favorite. I hope I’ll be able to make one of the performances.

The time has come for us to ask you, our esteemed readers, for some guidance in creating and implementing a fair comment policy that still allows for spirited discussion, but takes steps against the anonymous, ad hominem attacks that have spelled the death of far too many internet communities.
We want you to come here and discuss what’s going on in our city — regardless of your viewpoint. Respectful disagreement is encouraged, if for no other reason that it makes for a more lively and interesting conversation.
Unfortunately, this is the Internet. While some people value this sort of discussion, others will take advantage of anonymity to say things that they might not if they were speaking to someone face-to-face. Although this can lead to refreshing candor, it can also lead to personal attacks, lies and general misbehavior.
We need some guidelines and we need your help to craft them. If you were in our shoes, what rules would you create? How can we limit bad behavior without limiting the discussion? Mandatory registration is probably too cumbersome, and moderation of every comment would delay and kill the continuity of the conversation on our site. But we do need some rules in place so that there is a clear reason when a comment gets pulled or a certain user goes into comment moderation.
Please use the comments thread below to give us your suggestions on rules and guidelines.

One of the things mentioned in this week’s Curtain Call is a benefit concert for Cadillac Fraf this Sunday at The Fairmount on Magnolia. For those who may not be up to speed: longtime Fort Worth indie music and arts community member Chad “Cadillac Fraf” Percy, frontman of Mockingbird Cartel, was in a scooter accident some weeks back and has been in a coma since. The medical bills are stacking up.
This Sunday, The Fairmount will be hosting a benefit for Fraf featuring Skitz O’Fuel. Donations are welcome to help Fraf’s family deal with his medical bills. Fraf’s family has a web site on which they write updates on Fraf’s condition. Here’s hoping for a full recovery for Fraf and better days ahead for his loved ones and him.
