Bulls Night Out
by Steve Smith
I wouldn’t call myself a fan exactly, but I love going to the rodeo. As an event, I think it is in actuality what people imagine baseball to be: a sport that ties us to an arcadian American past. I like the bullriding because, like auto racing, without skill, technique and respect for your ride, you can get seriously hurt. This photoset from David Kozlowski at The Bulls Night Out event on Tuesday effectively captures the pageantry of the event and the energy of the sport.

As Durango succinctly put it, Texas throws good parades, and the Stock Show Parade is a good example. Did anyone here wake up in time this year, unlike me?

Photo: Cupcakes to Fight the Cold
by Kevin BuchananYeah, it’s cold. 23 degrees, as of this writing. So what? It’s just a little cold. As a wise man once said, “pain don’t hurt.”
To warm your spirits on this frosty December morn, here’s a photo I took of cupcakes. Cupcakes at Spiral Diner, to be more specific. They’re chocolate. Everybody loves chocolate. Everybody except Old Man Winter, that is. Stick it to that frozen old fart by daydreaming of chocolate cupcakes. With white, pink, and turquoise frosting. Or go eat them, even. They’re good. Like “snowflakes falling on a windowsill as a tiny kitten watches from inside and dreams of Christmas” good.
Anyway, enjoy the photo. And stay warm, Fort Worth. No sense freezing.

Cafe Modern at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. This is a three-exposure HDR image tone mapped in Photomatix Pro, taken with a Canon Digital EOS Rebel XT. I took this HDR image handheld, without a tripod. I’m not a big fan of super-processed HDR images, so I always try for a more realistic appearance - I think I’ve achieved that on this image.

Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge
by Pete WannThis weekend I finally made it out to the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge to do some hiking and see what the place is all about. It’s a beautiful area along the river and adjacent to Lake Worth, so there are ample opportunities for wildlife viewing and canoeing, etc.
Here are a few pics from the trip…
A Few Shots From the Fall Beer Festival
by Pete WannHere are a few pictures I took at the Fall Beer Festival put on by the Flying Saucer on Saturday. This year was a great success, according to “Captain” Keith Schlabs, the Food and Beverage Director at Eight-O management, the Flying Saucer’s parent company. He told me that they had already sold 30% more tastings this year than last by about 8:30, with another two and a half hours to go!
