You read that right — Friend of W&C Ricki Derek will be appearing at the Fort Worth location of everyone’s favorite foodie fantasy-land.
Entry is free (it’s on the patio), and you can make a nice picnic by grabbing a few things to much on, a bottle of wine (or two!) and a table out under the stars. The show starts at 6PM, but if you want a table, plan on getting there EARLY.
Considering how good the weather has been lately, this could be a GREAT show.

This week:
Sign the petition to put a moratorium on high-impact gas well variances!
Arlo Guthrie is appearing at Bass Hall Wednesday. Bernie has tickets, but he doesn’t know much about the guy except that he wants to go see it.
Central Market and The Fort Worth Weekly are resuming their “Burgers and Bock” concert series this week. (I can’t find a damn thing on that black hole they call a website, so I’m just going to link to it, and you can give it a go.) One of my favorite local celtic rock bands (OH MAN am I white!), The Killdares, will be the headliner for the annual Paddy O’ Party, this Saturday, the 15th. It must not be that big of a deal, though, since NEITHER website says a damn thing about it.
We probably talked about other things, too, but I’m too tired from following Bernie (and everyone else who went) on “The Official Monday Night Group Ride.” Here’s a tip, kids, for living comfortably after YOU have turned 30. If your idea of exercise is trotting up the 9 stairs between your sub-basement cube and the main office in the slightly-less-basementy part of the building, DON’T try to jump back into fitness with a 20 mile bike ride. Take it from me. I’m still numb in the you-know-where.

(The above sung to the OLD David Letterman “Letters” theme.)
Just a couple of things that have been floating around the Fort Worth rumor pool and have made their way over to us in the deep end:
Could Fort Worth finally be getting a Whole Foods? Someone with connections to the corporate offices assures us that we will, but as yet there’s no address. I’d like to suggest the old Carnival location on 8th Ave. It’d be nice to see a company like that take a chance on an up-and-coming neighborhood. I suspect, though, that it’s destined for the West Side or somewhere in the West 7th/Cultural District area. (Note to Whole Foods: Although the area outside the 820 Loop is technically “Fort Worth,” you’d be stupid to put your store there, because there’s no incentive for anyone to drive that far from the westside or downtown when Central Market is so much more, well, central.)
On the political front, I’m hearing from sources close to the negotiations that Sen. Barack Obama will not be appearing in Fort Worth proper, but rather his “Fort Worth” rally will actually be in Denton. That sucks, but if it’s on a weekend, I’ll be there, because the musical act lineup is looking pretty awesome, with some big name local and national acts in the works. I can’t share more now, but as soon as I find out more and can post it, you bet it’ll be here.
