i’m really glad to see this project hit the sun light as many of the musicians featured in the film went on to do major work in music: t-bone burnett, johnny reno, red young, stephen bruton etc. all of these musos carried with them very specific aspects of the panther city style into later phases of their careers: jacksboro hwy shuffles, jacksboro hwy western swing, evans ave. / riverside “free” jazz etc.
so many up and coming fw musos have no roots and wither by their mid / late twenties and are left completely bereft of ideas (musically speaking.) not the musicians featured in the film. even the ones who went on to non-music based careers had deep roots which makes them valuable music fans … something that further adds to the community.
also great to see austin based, but fw raised, writer joe nick patoski featured in the movie. a really brilliant guy. check out his books on stevie vaughn and willie nelson as well as his writing in texas monthly.

Guess I’m the last person in the world to learn about this phenomenon. My band was Jim Jones and the Chaunteys in the 60’s. Would like to make contact and give Kudos to all involved.
