Brave Combo Playing Trinity Park Sunday
by Pete WannWendy Davis is hosting a “Ped, Pedal, & Polka” rally this Sunday at the Shelterhouse in Trinity Park to celebrate our cycling and running trails. (Of course, since she’s running for office, it’s also a fundraiser, but you don’t HAVE to donate.)
Grady Spears will be out grilling hamburgers starting at 5PM until 7, and Wendy will lead the willing on a 2 mile fun run starting at 4:30.
How many times do you get the chance to go for a jog then enjoy a burger and a beer with a political candidate?
Note to Brimer campaign: I’d be happy to post about events you’re holding as well, please just email me.

Thats really great ….a fund raiser scheduled at a public park…another missuse of city funds.

I should know better than to feed the trolls, but how is this a misuse of city funds? Or do you mean that having parks is a misuse of city funds? The city isn’t paying for the fundraiser, and you’re not even required to contribute — it’s strictly voluntary.

Just think using a city park for a political fundraiser is wrong.

West Sider – I would imagine the Davis campaign has followed due diligence and reserved the park, for a fee, just like any other individual or organization can: http://www.fortworthgov.org/pacs/info/default.aspx?id=3928
Frankly, it would not be wrong (and probably not against local ordinance either) if her campaign is using the park without paying a reservation fee – the reservation fee would only allow them to make it a private event.
This is not any different than requests for street closure for protests/marches, or hosting events at recreation centers or other public facilities like convention centers.

Guess Brimers folks will be looking to see if deposit was paid and when, besides it’s going to rain.

Westsider, seriously?
How exactly do city funds come into play?
Personally I wouldn’t care who’s doing it, Davis or Brimer. Nor would I care if they got a permit for a reservation. Partisan pettiness is what stuff like that boils down to.
This is why I try to stay apolitical.
I’ll probably go to see Brave Combo play though. My daughter does love her Brave Combo!

Oh Pete,
So exactly what time does it start? At 1630 with the run, or sooner? Wasn’t really clear there.

Looks like westsider knows something that the National Weather Service doesn’t:

@Chris — The flyer I received isn’t very clear, either. I guess you can show up at 4:30 and run with Wendy, or you can come to the shelterhouse and get a burger starting at 5. I’m sure if you showed up at the shelterhouse at 4:30 they wouldn’t turn you away, but they might not be ready to serve food or whatnot.

Recyclican…remember this post….Davis election report shows no payments to the City of Fort Worth, so I guess the city employeesf that picked up trash and cleaned up the park donated their time to her.
