As the FW Business Press and others have reported, Chesapeake has pulled the plug on Shale.TV today citing “economic challenges.”
Anyone other than me wonder what they might have produced? I have to admit, I’m kind of curious.

I wonder if and how much money Tracy Rowlett got upfront from CHK. I hope he wasn’t paid in CHK stock.
Now that the momentum has turned away from CHK with the recent 8th Ave decision and CHK’s relationship with TCU souring, I’d love to see what they came up with.
I also wonder how they were funding this enterprise. I would think their labor cost was at least committed for the rest of the year. I also wonder how much they spent on potential bandwith for shale.tv. My guess is they didn’t get much cooperation from city residents or opponents of drilling because they knew shale.tv was a mouthpiece for CHK. I feel the real reason they announced the demise of shale.tv is because their content gave propaganda a bad name.

Morbidly curious, perhaps, like poking a stick into a fire ant mound until your eyes glaze over. Dangerous activity. How much deeper could Tracy & Co. go with this one note samba? What could they, with their airbrushed smiles and hi-tech graphics add that we haven’t already seen on Citizens of the Shale or heard on countless radio and TV spots and infomercials or seen on buses, print ads, billboards and 10 lb. magazines? Plus all of Julie Wilson’s “appearances” at city council and NA meetings. Plus the Star-Telegram’s endless string of endorsements. I think they plumbed it pretty damn deep. ENRON-deep. Nixon-deep. Kafkaesque-deep.
It was unmitigated hubris, a sick joke played on us Cowtown hicks. We were played for fools and strung along, waiting to see what they would do next. How low would they go? It was like being stuck in the movie, Network, unable to escape. A surreal world that got more surreal by the day.
With any luck, Julie Wilson will be terminated, Aubrey will end up on the Jerry Springer Show and the Pier One building will go up in flames. No, no, I have it wrong. WE’re the ones going up in flames. Popcorn, anyone?

Damn, I’m heartbroken! Where will I get my Big Energy propaganda fix now? Oh, that’s right, everywhere I turn in Fort Worth…Chesapeake has even resorted to scratching their number on bathroom stall doors.

Police were called to a Southwest Alliance lease signing event tonight. Will we see Don “Can’t Do” Young gloating about that also?
