Texas Monthly Handicaps Brimer’s Chances
by Steve SmithAnd I mean handicap in the horserace sense. Paul Burka provides a clear, quick overview of Kim Brimer’s legal gambit against Wendy Davis. Bottom line: two out of Brimer’s three post-election options might have some legs because of help from Republican friends. Interesting Burka quote: “If he’s going to carry the fight to the bitter end, do it, but don’t announce to the world that you’re a sore loser before you’ve lost. Nothing Brimer has done in this race makes sense to me.”
Thoughts?

My radar senses long coat tails for all things not GW Bush. Which one of these candidates looks and smells more like W?
When the pollsters had Kerry winning over Bush the bookies called it right with a Bush win. Today, they’re calling it an Obama win by a margin of 353 electoral votes for Obama and 185 for McBush.

I wouldn’t be so quick to predict the outcome of this race based on coattails. This particular race has been in the news almost daily; and the voters have quite a bit more than political ID or name recognition to associate with both candidates. Voting records, a history of representing the folks in this area, and the nearly daily news about Brimer’s desperate, Obama-esque attempts to remove his opponent from the ballot, have given the electorate a lot to think about when they pull the lever next month. I don’t see Brimer having much of a chance, regardless of who is in the White House come January.
