Scenes from Seattle - South Lake Union Streetcar and New Developments

Here are some photos from today’s excursion on Seattle’s South Lake Union Streetcar. Here, we’re boarding at one of the stops.

Here, we’re at Vulcan Real Estate, Paul Allen’s development company in South Lake Union, as we’re shown examples of new developments along the streetcar line.

Here’s an example of one of the many new mixed-use developments that have sprung up along the streetcar line.

And here’s another. This new residential/retail building is nearing completion. There are many new developments along the streetcar’s path.

Joel,

Thanks for all the great photos and reports. I have a question. Do you have to have cash to ride on the streetcars or can you get a pass or use a credit card? I was just wondering since I rarely have cash on hand.

Very cool! Seattle is one of my favorite cities and I have only visited Portland once and loved it! I look forward to your reports from there as well. The one visit to Portland I arrived at the airport in the middle of an ice storm. I made my way, using public transportation, to my hotel with the help of some very friendly locals. It was late and very cold but I was super impressed with their public transportation.

@fwtacoma — it looks like you purchase your fare at the farebox at the stops. Much like how the Dallas Light Rail and TRE work.
