West Meadowbrook NA Schedules Public Meeting on Pipelines for Wednesday

by Steve Smith

A Gas Pipeline Informational Meeting is scheduled for 6:30 Wednesday evening at Meadowbrook United Methodist Church at 3900 Meadowbrook Drive. The event is hosted by the West Meadowbrook Neighborhood Association and Fort Worth Mayor Pro Tem and District 8 Councilmember Kathleen Hicks, as well as state represenatives Lon Burnam and Marc Veasey.

This meeting will allow residents to get answers to questions, voice concerns and find out what steps can be taken to protect our neighborhoods. Experts in the field as well as elected representatives will be presenting information and responding to questions.

If you wish to read an interesting email from a concerned Carter Avenue resident who can’t attend the meeting, click through to the jump.

I was moved by this letter which originally appeared on Meadowbrook Today from Olga Arbonies, a Carter Avenue resident who can’t make the meeting but who has a good excuse. I deleted her home address and email, but otherwise the letter is as she wrote it:

Hello,

My name is Olga and my home is on Carter Ave. I am working in Iraq and have
not been home is 2001 when I joined the Army. I served in the Army for 5 years
and spent 2 years in Iraq. I return to Iraq because my home needs many repairs
and to pay off my mortgage. I am so angry about the gas company forcing people
to sign and mailing letters threaten to condemn their homes. For all I know,
their might be one in my mail box. I will not receive for at least another 15
days because I forward my mail here in Iraq.

Through out the years, I have seen my neighborhood improve. Many homeowners
have put in a lot of money to improve their homes. Scott Ave is one of my
favorite streets it has the beautiful homes, and I am in the middle of finishing
repairs on mine. Most of us can’t repair our homes all at once, but we do
what we can. I do not think it is fair or correct to say our area has a lot of
trash and debris. If our neighborhood was Highland Park, we would not be bullied
by this gas issue.

I do love my neighborhood, I know most of my neighbors on Carter Ave by name
and I know a few on Scott Ave. We are a neighborhood that waves at each other
as well drive through the neighborhood. We have crime watch in our area. I hope
people in the Meadowbrook area continue to stand up for our neighborhood. I
don’t think I will be able to fly back to the meeting. But, if anyone reads
this and attend please speak against it gas pipe on my behalf.

My name is Olga Arboniés my home is on Carter Ave, my neighbors know me as
Juanita’s daughter. I served my country for 5 years in the Army and I am
still here in Iraq.
