iWonder Where RadioShack Got This Idea?
by Steve Smith
An industry analyst at Deutsche Bank indicated that Fort Worth-based RadioShack is going to redesign its stores based on the design of a certain computer company. A new concept may be ready to test soon and analyst Mike Baker said that he believes the company’s pilot project will “replicate the look and feel” of Apple stores, and may include access to some wireless brands not carried by the company, such as T-Mobile, Verizon and AT&T. Does this mean I can get a remote-controlled helicopter with an iPod adapter?

Gawd! How often can the Shack redesign their stores? It seems that’s all they do anymore! I went into one the other day for a couple of slide switches and some wire connectors, and it was damned tough to find where their radio/electronics supply stuff has been marginalized to in order to make room for more cell phones, electronic toys and consumer crap such that one can get in a hundred other places around town.
The helpful store manager asked “did you find what y ou were looking for?” “Yep,” I told him. But only one of everything I was looking for. ” He got the point–they don’t stock much more than a couple of any single item. He said that when he needed electronic supplies, he ordered online from Allied Electronics. There’s a sterling endorsement for The Shack.
“Radio Shack: You’ve got questions; we’ve got blank stares.”
