Q Cinema’s filmfest has been going on for 10 years, right? I’m sure the Lone Star Fest can overcome some bad decisions and Bill Paxton’s taking his toys (and friends) home. Anyone thought to invite Austin resident Sandra Bullock? Longview boy Matthew McConnaughy? Get board members who know how to build on success one year at a time? As a regular joe blow citizen, it does seem that the local paper could have covered the inaugural year more. Maybe next year the festival could have a party at the Hyder home on Rivercrest. The paper never misses a chance to devote some ink to the latest shindig there. I think it’s just going to take a few years for this venture to mature.

I agree with those points, Will. Q Cinema is very well-run, thriving film festival. There are people associated with that festival who could contribute to a larger, national-scale festival here in FW — though the Lone Star Film Society or through another entity.
What makes me mad about all this is that the Paper can sit on a story like this and either write about it or not write about it. It just depends how they feel that day. Film festival aside, the real losers in this situation are the people of Fort Worth. They want vigorous local reporting so they can know what is going on in their city. What they get is apathy and laziness. No wonder circulation is declining.
