  1. What’s a “hoilday”?

  2. The St. Nick auditions actually aren’t open call so that’s why there aren’t times listed. It’s by appt. only which you can set up at saintnick.casting@gmail.com.

The Basstapo sure do make it hard to shoot an independent film in downtown Fort Worth. They run you out of every nook and cranny if you’ve got a camera in hand.

Go Berkeley! (Actually I could give a rat’s ass about football.)

  3. Well, that just goes to show you that I shouldn’t be given a microphone and an outlet.

Thanks for clearing that up, James.

Attention regular people: PLEASE do not just show up at the Lone Star Film Society offices on Saturday like I have been suggesting. I am a moron, do not listen to me. :)

  4. Embargo on Wednesdays (when los noviembres plays)is more low key. And the mojitos, though not really a winter beverage, are pretty great. But I’ll leave that right there heehee!

On the Scat side of things …. Mr. Johnny Reno is playing said lounge tomorrow eve. I can already taste my first manhattan. Maybe I’ll see you guys down there?

  5. I got a slew of emails the day the casting call was posted here (and on Craigslist). Not sure how many came from here, but thanks for all the help Pete W and don’t worry about the “open casting” mistake… Unless, of course, we get to the offices and have to wade through an excess of kiddos! (We’ll just get James out there to be a bouncer–he’s got “the look”). We are filled up for Saturday!

Also (again to Pete W), I hope at least one of your reasons for talking about Los Noviembres was from my blog post: http://www.akook.com/2007/11/los-noviembres.html

And while I’ve heard Embargo really kinda sucks on the weekends, you’ll get the idea of what they’re like mid-week from my blog post (in total agreement of what Paul said, i.e., “low key”).

Finally, one other Fort Worth event coming up is the “Art Humps” Christmas Party at 801 W Shaw St on Wed, Dec 19th at 6:30pm. Pete Asplund told me about this new thing he’s been doing to organize local artists. (He actually told me when we both saw Los Noviembres…). Anyway, I’m going to be there if I can get away and see what it’s all about.

    Later doods.

  6. Actually, Paul mentioned Los Noviembres to me at Scat on Friday, but I did a little more poking around and found your post as well.

I’m coming around on Embargo. I still think it’s overpriced, and it’s not really my scene AT ALL on the weekends (too crowded and loud), but it’s a pretty cool space.

Pete sent me the invite for Art Humps, but I wasn’t sure if it was blog fodder. Y’all don’t hesitate to ask for us to post something if you want to get the word out! (I’m pretty blind and deaf to subtle hints, just ask my wife.) If it doesn’t go up on W&C, it’s likely that it’ll go on one of our personal blogs. If we decide that we don’t want to promote it, I promise that we’ll be nice about it when we tell you no. :)

  7. Herb Levy

Coincidentally, I’d just read this blog post on the perfect $80 house, though there’s also $100K House content there, cause Jacobs wrote the book.

  8. Why can’t an affordable house be done? The city doesn’t want “affordable” housing. The powers-that-be decided that a home valued at only 100k doesn’t generate enough property tax to pay for itself. That’s why Cowtown is in the process of zoning affordable housing literally off the map.

  9. JPS, that’s an interesting observation. I hadn’t tought of it from that angle, but it could be true.

I suppose by “affordable” in this context I mean compared to other sustainably built housing. “Affordable” probably has a different definition in context of zoning decisions.

  10. Thanks for the promo. I’m a benevolent monarch and I’m willing to listen to everyone’s best/worst vote on anything for 2007. More ideas:

Worst place for your front wheel to go flying off your bike:
Worst cat (I think the winner is sitting in my lap):
    Best use of old technology.

I guess what I’m saying is that I’ll like to tell some good stories in addition to saying that Joe T’s has the best margs and that Flying Saucer has the best beer selection.

  12. Herb, sorry, but your comment got stuck in the SPAM filter.

I’ve seen that house before! We actually e-mailed it around to each other suggesting that we get it for Steve-O for Christmas.
