The View Finder
by Pete GFort Worth freelance photographer and flickr user David Kozlowski specializes in hyper-realistic imagery, blending multiple exposures to enhance light, shadows, color tones and saturation to create finished pieces resembling paintings or illustrations.
A voracious photographer, Kozlowski says he is most comfortable shooting urban decay, architecture, industrial sites and especially people. When not shooting photos, the Keller resident enthusiastically assists younger photographers with advice and encouragement.
With work exhibited in several galleries, museums, online and in print, Kozlowski says “I consider myself an advanced amateur, with a couple sales sprinkled on top. I have always had an eye for design, but never utilized it until…I discovered Flickr. It was there that I gained a little attention with my passion for HDR images. To this day I am still addicted to it…I really find it beautiful. I have no formal training or background in photography…what I know has been self-taught, or through lessons given by great Flickr buddies.”

“The image of Rocky, the drover was one of those images shot on a whim. I was meandering around the Stockyards one afternoon, watched the drovers leading the herd, and afterwards, walked into the horse stables. There was Rocky, sitting in the shade, resting after the drive. He has such a great personality, and was willing to permit me to take a few shots of him….to this day, I receive glowing comments about this photo. The City of Fort Worth sold this print in a silent auction last year, and I also presented Rocky with a print. The drovers are one of my favorite subjects to shoot in Fort Worth. The light inside the stables is incredible….and incredibly difficult to shoot. I still have not been able to adequately capture the light there.”

Frenzied, originally uploaded by David Kozlowski.
“Having moved to the Fort Worth area 7 years ago, I immediately fell in love with all things Texas…I think I see Texas from a different, “outsiders”, yankee perspective…I don’t take anything for granted, and I often think back about what really impressed me after moving here, and I try to focus on those subjects…as you can see from my photos, I love Texas landscapes, and cowboy/rodeo imagery.”
While not strictly related to Fort Worth, check out Kozlowski’s photo essay of cattle rancher Chad Eubank. There’s some beautiful work in this set. And of course, you can see all of his work here.
There’s a lot of creativity simmering beneath the surface around these parts, and we want to highlight the (un)known talent in Fort Worth. The View Finder does just that. If you are and flickr user and have an image that is related Fort Worth somehow and you want to share with us, tag it image with “westandclear“. If we like it, we’ll feature it on The View Finder.

Wow. Great pic. It’s easy to imagine that it’s an old B&W from the days of the cattle drives until you see that wristwatch
Again, great shot and great series for West & Clear. I don’t see how Caravan of Dreams is going to win blogsite of the year from FWWeekly next year with the great stuff we’re seeing on West and Clear.
