Thank God, It’s the Friday Roundup

  • Coverage of the Lone Star International Film Festival was a media ghost-town, but we are proud of our city and our coverage. The LSIFF needs to book Hannah Montana next year if they want some local press.
  • And since we are getting a lot of mileage out of this whole film festival thing, check out Adam’s writeups @ akook.com.
  • Ok, just one more…Paul Boll shreds the axe for The Rumblers and writes about playing with director Robert Rodriguez last weekend at The Embargo. Boll helped write some of the original music in Rodriguez’ Roadracers.
  • Bernie is a MURDERER!
  • What happens when you slam a mountain bike into a road bike and race it criterium style on an off-road track? And what if this track has unridable portions where the racers have to dismount and run their bikes up hills or over obstacles? That, my friends, is the grueling, the exciting and somewhat underground sport of Cyclo-Cross, and reports Ben over at Texas Tailwind, the Moritz Cowtown Cross is going down this Sunday, November 18.
  • Over at the Modern Blog, Sarah discusses the open and expansive architecture at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth and how the current exhibition “Declaring Space”, featuring work by Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman, Lucio Fontana, and Yves Klein, interacts with the building.
  • Fort Worth Hole in the Wall is making life easier by tagging his restaurant reviews by neighborhood. And then, predictably, my stomach growls upon reading his review of La Playa Maya.
  • Does this mean your $8 royalty check glows in the dark? Maybe your kids will develop superpowers. And by superpowers I mean cancer. Steve-O blogs about the kinda-local newspaper coverage of a report that indicated gas drilling fracing can bring up radioactive particles from deep within the earth. And this could happen in my backyard or yours.
  • The Texas Clipper is finally going down on Saturday, November 17. Well, don’t, umm, hold your breath. After months of delays and last minute changes, the 473 foot long Texas Clipper is being sunk off the coast of South Padre Island. The first attack troop transport to arrive at Iwo Jima in WWII, the Texas Clipper will now serve as an artificial reef for marine life. Resting at a max depth of 134 feet, the Texas Clipper will be within recreational limits for the estimated 250,000 SCUBA divers that live in Texas.
  • And since I am pandering to the SCUBA divers out there, don’t miss the DUI Drysuit Dog Days event going on this weekend out at Clear Springs SCUBA Park in Terrell, TX. The premiere drysuit maker will have over 100 different drysuits for divers to try out, plus a BBQ and raffle. You don’t even have to be drysuit certified to try one out.
  • The Food and Fort Worth blog gives us a Fall 2007: Best of Fort Worth roundup.
  • Kevin at Fort Worthology employs some brazen high tech methods to get the new futurific renderings of the West 7th project. Movie theater looks promising but it looks more like a 40-plex than an “art house” theater?
  • Hey! Suits in that big tall building downtown! How about building some of these, instead of the starter castles that are popping up like weeds across the FW/D landscape? It’s a sustainable, green 2 bedroom 1 bath, 1000 sq ft home built for less than $100k. Good for your bottom line, good for our community, and good for the planet.
  • Did I miss anything? Got a favorite Forth Worth blog? Join us in celebrating how radderest our city is and tell us about it at panther@westandclear.com or fill out this here fancy email form.

    2. I can’t tell you how much fun it was, or how nervous I was the whole time that I wasn’t sounding like either an idiot or a fanboi.
