Lone Star International Film Festival– “The Education of Charlie Banks”

So the big buzz amongst festival-goers was for Fred Durst’s directorial debut The Education of Charlie Banks. Never a fan of Limp Bizkit or the associated music videos, I was kinda like “meh” about seeing the movie. But everyone kept talking about how good it was and like Pete W, I too was worried that this was some artificially created Hollywood buzz.

Ah, heck…I was standing right there at the red carpet, so after shooting the following pics I followed the talent in and watched the thing.

Man, I am glad I decided to give Fred-o a chance. Sure, there were a few too many camera moves for my taste and I suppose the editing could have been a bit tighter, but a compelling story and strong acting really made “The Education of Charlie Banks” something worth watching. Starring Jesse Eisenberg as Charlie Banks and the commanding Jason Ritter as Mick Leary, it’s a story about superficial versus true changes in personality. The responsible, collegiate Banks in confronted with a ghost from his past when sociopathic Leary shows up in his dorm room one day.

Keep an eye on Jason Ritter, son of the late John Ritter. If his performance is any indication, he’s in for a long and fruitful career.

Now for some shots from the red carpet scene last Friday night.
